Are you on a journey? Have you been seeking a deeper life in Christ than what was handed to you? Do things that once seemed clear not feel as firm as before? Maybe you’ve packed your bags from one form of faith, looking for a truer, safer, more welcoming home than the one you left behind. Or maybe you feel like you’ve been left behind—by a religion on stage that barely resembles the Jesus on the page.
Good news: you are not alone. There is community for you even in the wilderness, and there is hope for the Future of The Church.
The Jesus Cohort is a caring community of like-minded travelers on a “water-to-wine” journey. For one year, we will dive into the story and significance of Jesus together, seeking how to learn, live, and lead others into The Jesus Way.
Explore the Story of Jesus Together
Over the course of our one-year journey, we will dive into the story and significance of Jesus as an immersive online community. Here, you’ll find a safe space to explore and expand your faith with a group of fellow travelers from all over the country, from various traditions and levels of church leadership, who are serious about pursuing Jesus and The Jesus Way.
We’ll start and end the year with on-campus meetups at Word of Life Church in St. Joseph, MO, and meet online every single week for prayer, discussion, and encouragement.
Some of the topics we’ll explore together include Jesus & The Story of God, Jesus & The Bible, Jesus & The Ancient Church Tradition, and Jesus & The Christian Life. We’ll engage these ideas and others as a caring, contemplative, and conversational community, growing together into culturally-engaged followers of Jesus who embody the Kingdom of God in our churches and cities.
Engage in Prayer & Practice as a Community
In many ways, we think the best path forward is to look back. Christianity has a rich tradition of contemplative prayer and practice. In a modern culture that all too often values immediacy and excess over patience and simplicity, these ancient practices are just as potent now as they ever have been.
Our year together begins at Prayer School with Pastor Brian Zahnd, where we will dive into the great tradition and learn to embrace the practice of liturgical prayer. This first step of simply learning to pray better, and “sit with Jesus” is a springboard into what we hope to accomplish in community as The Jesus Cohort.
Throughout the year, we will engage with the Church Calendar, The Book of Common Prayer, Contemplative practices, Jesus-centered liturgy, The Enneagram, and other facets of Christian tradition both ancient and modern, journeying together toward ongoing growth and spiritual formation.
Learn to Live and Lead the Jesus Way
Nobody is perfect, and no church is perfect, but we believe that the Church of the Future will look more like Jesus as we ourselves become more like Him.
Our mission is to prepare the next generation of church leaders to learn, live, and lead others in The Jesus Way—embracing the perspectives, patterns, and practices of Jesus as Lord, so that we would become expressions of the Kingdom of God in our communities.
